If it makes you feel better, I'll clarify my original post. I think it's funny because SOG doesn't even have any knives made out of the same steel as the one in the intro video. It's SK5 if you didn't know that. Most of SOG's fixed blades are AUS8. Now, there is the Duratech 20CV Team Leader, which looks to be a very nice knife, but out of my price range for now. I don't mean to say SOG's AUS8 blades are junk in any way. I would like SOG to make another big tool steel chopper, but it doesn't look like that will happen soon. On a good note, in another thread, I commented on how I'd like to see if SOG would shoot any of their current line up. To my surprise, Chris chimed in and said that they are thinking of doing that with some models! As I said in that thread, that would be great because the intro video knife would not seem so mystical to those new to SOG Knives.
Oh, to me, stating that tool steel knives are more impact resistant than AUS8 doesn't qualify as disparaging SOG's knives. As I've stated, I have praised the AUS6 and ATS34 SOG knives that I own. That particular knife in the video, the SK5 Tigershark, has long been the pinnacle of SOG fixed blades to me. If saying that it's more impact resistant (an inherent tool steel characteristic) than current AUS8 models, and if finding humor in using it to advertise is trolling, then I can't argue that. However, all companies have top tier knives and that discontinued one is a top tier SOG in my opinion. I recognize strengths and weaknesses in all knife manufacturers that I purchase from. To be a cheerleader for one company is not for me. Even on another forum, I've praised some of my SOGs for their close attention to detail over those of the forum I posted in. If you got that I think AUS8 SOG knives are junk from my original post, I'm sorry. That was not my intent.
