There are Ang Kholas for varying lengths - 16inch, 18inch and 20inch. I thought I read somewhere that there's even a 30inch monster.

Is there any strategic difference in the different sizes of Ang Khola?

What difference does it make if it is 20inches or 18inches? Will that 2-inch difference contributes significantly to the cutting edge of this famous khukri?

Are there any historical or traditional reasons for the different sizes of Ang Khola?

A 30 inch Ang Khola ...hmmm.... no doubt done by Sher...probably would weigh around 10 - 12 pounds if Sher's past work is any indication... Oh Jimmy....do you think that this might be an excellent test for HI's Research Department...;-)

My 20" Ang Khola is actually 22". I like it much better than my 18" Ang Khola. The 22" Ang Khola weights 3.75 LB vs 2 LB for the 18" Ang Khola. The bigger Ang Khola is a better chopper and splitter. However 1.75 LB extra is a lot to carry around.

Golok.

I guess it is a matter of weight. I have a 15" AK which I named it as Dhaju (ie. Big Brother). It is about 1 1/2 lbs. The weight of 18" AK is about 1 1/4 lbs and the 20" AK is about 3 lbs. As for a small skinny person like me, the most I can handle is the 18" AK ... the 20" AK is just too heavy.

BTW, AK model is just a unique blade in SEA --- I personally never seen any SEA blade with ridges such as AK! What a great knife! And ... there is another great model ... a Tin Chirra Model!

I'd have to disagress with that. My 22" AK has been feeling a bit light lately, maybe it is time to upgrade.

Welcome back, you've been gone too long!!Now I can give my "RESEARCHER" classification back to whom it belongs,"Mr. Stamp", I will go back, to the JC Fellowship! Cliff, don't know how to say this "TACTFULLY" but if you want a 30" you 're right there with Rus, Tom & Koz,you also are "NUTS"!
