Hair Shaving Sharp

I have three knives that were not hair shaving sharp from the manufacturer: Ranger RD9, Scrap Yard Scrapper LE, and the Buck Knighthawk.

Is it necessary to get them resharpened (the Buck was resharpened at the factory but still won't shave hairs) or is this normal for these kind of heavy duty knives. I am not that great at sharpening but will try if it is not too complicated and won't take all day - thanks.

hair popping is tough to accomplish, at least for me. only my emersons came from the factory this way.

i use either a steel rod, leather strop or both. usually after a few swipes on the sharpmaker. im no expert, but the steel/strop combo gets my knives shaving sharp.

What Cougar Allen said is a good idea for any knife nut. Spyderco knives usually comes straight out of the box shaving anything you put in front of it.
