I was cleaning my 0560 this morning and I saw a thin black line near the thumbstud on the blade. I thought it might be a hair so i tried to scrub it off, but upon closer inspection, I found out it was a hairline crack all the way through the spine of the blade originating at the thumbstud. I really cant believe it. I never abuse any of my knives, and ive never used the 0560 for more than opening boxes, cutting rubber hose, light food prep and the like. Nothing anyone could call abuse by any stretch. So Im sending it in for warranty service today, Ill see in 6-8 weeks what kershaw/ZT has to say. Anybody else have an issue with Elmax cracking?

I've never had issues with the Elmax on my 560 or 801. Sorry to hear about that. Warranty will take care of the issue for you. The few that I have sent in were around 3 weeks round trip and I'm in Va. Let us know when they take care of it for you.

The stop pins are press fit, more than likely the initial hole was a hair small and it caused some stress that resulted in the crack.

They will take care of you.

Yes it is a crack and it is going to make a weak spot right there but with the rounded hole in the way it should stop the crack from spreading.

I just talked with a ZT warranty rep, he said it was indeed a defect in the press fit of the thumb stud. They said it would be replaced free of charge. Only thing is, they said the replacement blade will have no laser etching or markings of any kind on it. I guess that's how they do blade replacements.

I think the sterile blades look better!
I would be very suprised if it takes 6-8 weeks. Since the blade is defective and the crack isn't your fault fault I wothings sums your knife will be made a priority.
Let us know how it goes.

I don't believe it was an Elmax model but someone on here had a similar issue with a knife. It is not common as this is the second case I have ever heard of with all the owners on here. What I can guarantee is that they will absolutely take care of you, best company to deal with for warranty issues.

Could be a nice opportunity to customize it yourself.
Some nice engraving or something?
Cheers

Kershaw has good customer service for the most part and as long as the knife is under warranty they should take care of you and just replace the whole blade.

They don't only replace blades for manufacturing defects. If you mess up a good blade you can have them replace it for $30. (Awesome that they started doing this!) Leaving off the laser etching allows them to keep the cost so low.

What is the reasoning for not having ant etching on the replacement blade?

If you want the laser etchings, which I would, ask them to have one of their dealers send you a new knife.

Interesting. Didnt know about the sterile blade. Dont think I like it....but it is what it is. Question....

will kai give ya an option for a knife swap if one was willing to pay a fee for the extra cost involved? Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated.
