I have 2 Plumbs I'm going to restore shortly but they have small hairline cracks formed on the top side of the eye in the front of the eye.

One runs no more than 1/8th inch to the bit then stops and the other runs the same BUT I can see a small crack that is about 1/4 down into the eye itself.

I've read that these hairline cracks are nothing to worry about due to actually some of them being there from forging? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll try and upload pics tomorrow but I was just curious. I do have a welder at work that could drop some welding in the cracks but if its
not needed I'd sooner not get into that.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the crack. If it's in line with the eye and never emerges on the face of the axe then it's a remnant from the forging process and of no concern. But if it connects the interior of the eye to the cheek then it's a real crack and should be welded up.

Can you show us a picture?
