Just finished the first "episodic" installment of what will be, in effect, Half-Life 3.

There has been a lot of argument as to whether this marketing ploy by Valve is a good idea or not; they claim they can put content out quicker, and be more responsive to user comments. Naysayers claim Valve is gouging....

I don't think so; If you download the game via Steam it's 17.50 (pre-ordered). This means a total price of a bit over 50 bucks, or about what you'd expect to pay for a full-length game. And you don't have to wait six years....

On to the game. Picking up at the ending of HL2, you get a cut scene that explains your (and alyx's ) survival, and then it's quickly on to the action. The combine tower is going to blow up, destroying city 17. First item of buisness-stabilize the reactor. Then, get out of Dodge.

Good, straightforward HL2 gameplay with plenty of nasty critters, Combine soldiers and so forth to shoot at, and enough puzzles to keep things interesting. Took me about a week to work through it, and I tend to get killed a lot.
A worthy addition to the title.
