Any one know of a readily available 1/2 Congress with a Wharncliffe & Coping blade bedsides GEC?

Actually, I can't think of any. The #61 and #62 patterns in that configuration were pretty unique. I've not seen congresses like them.

Thank you guys. That Eye Brand is my second choice. How far back would I need to go to find a nice one with good walk and talk?

I ordered a new one several years ago in black jigged bone directly from the Olbertz website - a full congress, though I doubt the mechanics would be much different. It was the small version (think peanut sized) but despite its diminutive stature it's walk and talk was very good. I no longer have it, I gifted it to a forum buddy but here is an old photo;

Thanks Paul. Anyone esle have input on Eye Brand Quality over the years?

As to your original question, there is a Schatt & Morgan 2 blade congress currently listed on a web site with a sheepsfoot main blade and a coping secondary blade.

Eye Brand? I have a couple of Eye Brand knives from the '70s that I like and are of good quality. Levine listed the Eye Brand as a moderate quality knife while designating Kissing Crane and Hen & Rooster as premiums. I like the Eye Brand better. Schlieper went bankrupt in 1993 and I would stick to that or before. I have not handled any of the newer ones. I have heard both that Olbretz claims to use no Chinese parts in their knives and that others claim the blades come from China and are assembled in Germany. What that means for quality I have no opinion but I stick to pre '93 Eye Brands. That's my 2 cents.

BJ, you'll need to remove the dealer reference, Greg doesn't have a dealer membership here - you'll get modded [emoji33]

I have bought quite a few knives from Fredreich Olbertz over the last few years - some branded as themselves and some branded as Carl Schlieper German Eye. They are quite clearly made by the same people using the same parts and techniques (aggressively domed pins, identical jigging patterns and colours, the same blade profile and grind and sharpened the same way for example). Mine were all German made using carbon steel - a German forum buddy (good old Papa Andi) put me onto them and assured me of their progeny. I was quite impressed by their quality, and would happily buy them again.

pmew, thanks for the info. Interesting to know about the Olberitz productions. Quality hasn't been why I stick to the pre '93 German Eye and I am glad to know that it is still there in the newer knives.

Great community here guys. I am glad to have found you.
