Friend of mine just called me, his resident knife expert (ha!) to ask if I'd ever heard of a folding or pocket knife with a half-inch blade. Not a boxcutter.

I can't imagine what something like that would be good for, unless the guy who told him about it was referring to a miniature or something.

What's the smallest folder blade you've come across?

What kind of folder is he talking about? Are you sure he is talking about length, and not width, or stock thickness?

The smallest I usually see are 1" pen knives.

Murders have been committed with these one inch blades. Razor blades imbedded in toothbrushes have sent many a prisoner and Corrections Officer to the Great Beyond, while Medical Examiners can dissect an entire human body with a small surgical scalpel.

small one inch blades, such as Scalpels and Shivs, and even blades on tiny Swiss Army Knives can be used to do almost anything. It just takes a little more care and effort to do its job.

Sure, I know all about shivs and such, but this is a folding knife he was talking about, not a utility knife, box cutter, or razor blade embedded in a toothbrush. And, yes, he was talking about length.

I wonder if the guy who brought it up to him was just talking through his hat.

I have seen some very small slipjoints. My dad used to have an old one with a blade just over 1/4"!

You think maybe he was referring to the D'Alton Toad by spyderco? It's pretty darn small.

The only blades that I have seen that would be about 1/2" are some cigar cutter blades and this would be the sharpened part of the blade. The total length would be around 3/4". Other blades that would sometimes get close to this measurement would be can opener and punch blades although these would usually be closer to 1 to 1 1/2" or even longer in some cases. Pen blades are usually at least 1" in length, though there are probably some that are a little shorter than that.

I had a little Schrade a long time ago that had two pen blades and a nail file. The long blade is about 1 3/4", and I believe the small blade was between 1/2" and 3/4".

Soon to recieve a modified omega 3 jr. from BLADERIGGER that will have an approx 1" cutting edge,to be used as a small gents knife. JAMES is the greatest!:D

Al Mar osprey's 1.2 inch blade? or Spyderco's small neckchain knife...
