Half-Life 2 Rube Goldberg machines

Looks realy cool. And yes indeed that's a lot off work. But verry verry funny.

Played HL-2 once, but didn't like it verry much. Counter Strike 2 ( included on the cd ) however is great :)

I rate HL2 as among the best games I've ever had. Superb graphics and images, wonderful character animations and voice acting, non-stop action, clever puzzles, and a coherent plot throughout.
What's not to like?

I've tried a number of the mods for the game, including the fun S-Mod from Japan. No changes to the game proper, but tons of new (and terrifically destructive) weapons. Great if you just want to blow things up a lot.

Right now, I'm playing through HL2 yet again, this time on "hard" mode.

As an older gamer, I find the frantic "twitch-heavy" games to be a bit too much.
Just don't have the reflexes. Give me a machine gun and a bush to hide behind...

hahahaa, thats funny. I know what you mean though some of the people that play fps's are just too fast. Makes me feel inadequate. :(

It would be nice if the software would limit the motions/actions to the speeds a human can actually accompish with a real body, as opposed to how fast an 11 year old can push buttons on a keypad.

I'd have to vote HL2 as one of the greatest single player FPS games ever. As a 44 year old gamer, I enjoy the occasional Counter Strike Source match, but eventually get tired of having my ass handed to me bu some kids. The single player format is more to my liking.

Hehe-I put the original post here because the "Rube Goldberg" machines were rather "gadgety", though virtual. Devolved into a video-game discussion. Dunno if software is a gadget or a gear...Depends on your definition, I suppose.

I'm with you mwerner , HL2 is one of the best games ever made as was HL1.
The multitude of mods out are incredible , many of which are absolutly free.
Shadowgrounds
Dayhard
The Island
Exterminate
Minerva
Darwinia to name only a tiny few.

I do agree HL2 is a great game. But as for good on-line gaming goes...nope, but Counter Strike Source is.
Good game, perfect graphics. And i like themethod of playing. I'm 31yrs and i have been active for years in my clan. We play Counter Strike, Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, World of warcraft and Unreal Tournament.

All of our players are in the 30 and 40 year range and we can stil kick ass. Indeed do the 14yr olds move like hell. But they lack 1 thing. Experience and teamplay. Thats why we still win haha. ( even beeing the grandpa's we are )

But my game is, and always will be Enemy Territory. Not the best graphics from nowadays, but the gameplay is unsurpassed. Plus it's a free game unlike HL2 etc.

But i must say CS:S is verry fun to play also. The weapons, the sounds, the looks of it all. Verry good game and game-engine indeed.

For those who like realistic shooters, I can reccomend the Battlefield 1942 mod, Forgotten Hope.
This has been out for a couple of years, and the lads are hard at work on the Battlefield 2 version. It removes most of the "arcade" elements from the standard BF42 game, so that armor has more realistic gunnery and sighting, aircraft have realistic loadouts, and weapons do appropriate damage. One hit from any "battlefield" rifle and you're pretty much toast, for instance.

There are a large number of fine custom maps available, and there are still busy servers up every night. It's difficult to get in to the 60-player Wolf server, for instance.
FH2 Should be great whenever it's released; you can check out progress and stills of the in-development models here:
