Howdy folks! Time for my very first thread in the Becker forum, and what better way to start than to do a GAW? I met some of these lunatics at the last Gathering and I must say, they were very nice to me. Even before I unwrapped all the treats Angie made for us to share... so I'm glad to be able to help give back a little.
You may remember this actual knife from Nikki's GAW thread a few weeks ago. Since I already have a real, original Becker Necker with a thing on the end that opens all kinds of bottles, I decided I would clean it up a bit and pass it on again.
Here's the rules:
Open to any BladeForums member in good standing... even Beckerheads.
Post as many times as you like, preferably with a picture of someone doing something fun with either a Becker or a handmade/custom knife. The number of your first post will be your "ticket number", and I'll choose a winner with a random number generator on Thursday morning, August 1st 2013.
One entry per person - EXCEPT - Nikki automatically gets two entries for giving this great knife away in the first place! Also, if you have done a GAW anywhere on BladeForums in the last year, post a link to it, and you get an extra chance, too!
Make sense? Seem fair? Too bad, that's the way it is
Again, here's the original thread by NikkiR
The edge was a little wonky. Not really as bad as it looks in this picture; it just needed some THK TLC.
So I straightened it out, thinned out the edge a bit, resharpened it and said to myself, "Self, what the heck... let's convex it, remove the coating from the blade and smooth out the factory machining marks a tad"... and voila, Half-Naked Necker! (don't be alarmed, I'll spare you the pics of the Half-Naked Knifemaker
)
My wife Angie scolded us when we were playing in the garden. "Good grief," she said, "put some pants on!" OK, fine
I decided to see if this thing still cuts after all the abuse I heaped on it, with a couple very fresh cherry tomatoes and an okra pod...
I know, I know... those tomato slices are a little on the thick side; they have color to them still. Don't worry, though, I haven't stropped it yet. It'll get a little sharper
So there it is. Have fun and good luck... and most of all, thanks!
