Half-Stop on SAK's Bottle Opener

For the few weeks I've had my Vic Ranger, I couldn't figure out why the bottle-opener/screwdriver/wire-stripper has a half stop. Moments ago, I was reattaching the hose clamp on a clothes dryer; it was a terribly cramped space, and I couldn't quite line up the screw driver. Then I had the epiphany:

The screw driver can be used at a right angle! Brilliant!

Kudos to the Swiss engineers

Yes, they really figured out everything and have packed the maximum utility into those SAKs.

But why are the screw driver tips polished round instead of squared-off? I can't figure that one out. Oh well... easy enough to fix with a grinder or file.

Also works good for torque prying.

Round-cornerd screwdriver tips is why I carry a micra these days instead of a Tinker. The scredriver blade tips on the micra have square corners, so they don't slip off the screw head as easily. Besides that way I get to carry another knife. :DI find the knife blade on a micra unsatisfactory.

The Micra plus a dedicated folder (for me, that often means a razor-sharp Case cv Sodbuster Junior) is a massively useful minimalist combination.

I use the half stop for more leverage and torque. I've gotten it into places a regular screwdriver wouldn't go.

I don't mind the rounded polished corners; I grind them on a belt sander to fit the screws on my Finnish model 39 rifle. Between the (reground) large & small screwdriver on my old Huntsman, I can work every screw on that rifle.

thx - cpr
