Half stops; why?

I've noticed that some of my slipjoints have half stops on some or all of their blades, yet lockbacks never seem to have them.

Anyone know if half stops serve any useful purpose?

To keep your fingers intact when the blade closes? At least that is what I always thought.

Same here, Daniel. And it seemed to have worked until I switched over to lock blades. With some of them, it would be damned useful, let me tell you!:D

To be able to display the knives open with out putting unecessary strain on the back springs. If the blade is open all the way there is little pressure on the back spring. Likewise with half stops.Cheap knives won't have them its just an extra touch that takes some additional time to make it right.
