I wanna strip the coating off of my bk2. But I wanna only strip the bottom half of the blade and keep the coating on the top half of the blade. I have seen a few pics of Bk2's that have had this done. My question is how do you do that?? I'm assuming the use paint strippers to remove the coating but how do they only manage to strip half he blade in such a straight defined line??
thanks in advance!!

Not familiar w/ your particular blade, but if you're talking about cleaning the grind faces and leaving the orig blade flats black (meaning you have 2 planes to work w/) then sanding off the coating is simple:

but then polishing it to a nice even polish is less simple, or more exactly much more time consuming.

I wouldn't use a gel or liquid paint stripper; there's a risk it could still creep up under the tape and ruin the nice transition from the flat to the main bevel.

It'd be much safer to either scrape/sand off the paint up to the flats as mentioned above... Good luck with your project and please post pics of the results!

I sanded mine down. Didn't try too hard to keep the lines straight, but thats just me. Ended up sanding the rest of the coating off the blade.

Sanding is the only way. Stripper not only works under tape but creeps into the coating itself sideways if you will. You will end up with a very ragged looking edge because you'll get pencil eraser sized chunks of finish that have come loose next to areas that stayed put. You will end up stripping it all off. I know, I went there with an ESEE-5. She's naked as a jay bird now and I was just going to do the main bevel.

Sanding will give you much more control. Masking tape will work pretty well although don't try to rely on the same piece for the whole sanding job. When it starts to get a little frayed, peel it off and put down fresh. You'll only have to do that once or twice a side I'd think.

Actually. I forgot to mention that the flats on beckers are very dark grey when stripped and the bevels are nice silvery color. May be close enough to black coating for you
