Saw it this afternoon, in my experience it's very rare for a remake/retelling to surpass the original, especially when the first was such a classic, but this one did for me.

This is the first movie I have seen directed by R.Z., but may have to go rent the others now!

This one gets and deserves :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I thought it SUCKED. The beginning was pointless, and the only character development was Michael, and his character completely changed after the first 1/2 hour. The girls were likable (except the cheerleader) but you didn't get to know them at all, Laurie never found out who he was, the movie couldn't decide if it was a direct remake (exact quotes from the original?!) or if it was a different movie all together. Loomis was awful, and how the hell did Michael know where he was going? He was just all of a sudden in a different house shot to shot. No story telling at all. And the ending was one of the dumbest I've ever seen. He was cool as a juggernaut though, and the score was great. But overall, Bah to "Rob Zombie's John Carrpenters Halloween":thumbdn:
P.S. Michael is WAY scarier as the bogeyman than as a serial killer. Humanizing him was a goofy move IMHO.

I thought it was not a bad remake, as remakes go. I guess I'm nit-picking, but it seemed to me that the scenes of Michael's childhood were taking place in the late '70s (music, clothing styles, cars, etc.). It sure reminded me of 1978 or thereabouts. But apparently it was only taking place in about 1992(?), because only 15 years later people were already using their modern cell phones. And I also thought it was never explained how he knew who his sister was (surely he couldn't have recognized her) and her adoptive parents.

Cinematically, though, the guy who plays Myers (Tyler Mane) is much more hulking than the original, who was a fairly average-sized guy. I sorta missed seeing the "Frankenstein sit-up" Michael did whenever people thought he was dead in the original; guess Rob Zombie thought that was too corny(?) to include in the remake.

I loved 'House of 1000 Corpses' and 'Devils Rejects'. In fact I watched house again this weekend. Zombie has a way of pushing well over the line of decency and into the obscene. It is certainly not the type of movie for anyone who takes things seriously.
I was curious how he we would approach things in Halloween. Looking forward to seeing it - but will probably wait for the DVD and those hilarious special features. Besides, it will likely debut on DVD on halloween!
