I don't understand how microtech can manufacture the Halo III and the like when it seems to be illegal?

1999 Florida State Statutes
790.225 Self-propelled knives; unlawful to manufacture, sell, or possess; forfeiture; penalty.--

(1) It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, display, sell, own, possess, or use a
self-propelled knife which is a device that propels a knifelike blade as a projectile by means of a
coil spring, elastic material, or compressed gas. A self-propelled knife is declared to be a
dangerous or deadly weapon and a contraband item. It shall be subject to seizure and shall be
disposed of as provided in s. 790.08(1) and (6).

(2) This section shall not apply to any device which propels an arrow, a bolt, or a dart by means
of any common bow, compound bow, crossbow, or underwater spear gun.

(3) Any person violating the provisions of subsection (1) is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first
degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
Please clear this up - preferably with a quote from another law so my Halo won't be confiscated....

I believe this is talking about ballistic knives where the blade leaves the handle and is propelled across the room.

JoeG26er,

That law is talking about ballistic knives. A ballistic knife shoots a projectile. In other words; you stand 20ft(for example) from a 'target', point the knife at the 'target' and press the button. The blade will be projected at the 'target' and stick in it(depending on what you shot it at). Your HALO doesn't do that. The spring is just an opening mechanism. I know the Russians used to make a ballistic knife. I think it was called the Spetznaz(forgive the spelling). Anyway, I hope that cleared it up. One literally shoots the blade, the other just opens the knife. By the way, Ballistic knives are VERY illegal. It's probably the worst knife to ever get caught with. If you do a search on ballistic knives in posts from last year, you'll find some good info and a couple of pictures.

..as a projectile
Well, I am relieved but I am still a bit leery of that loophole...
I wonder if Microtech could provide some law to quote when faced with potential confiscation?

I once got a ticket for "using flashing lights" just for turning my headlights on and off once in the day time while approaching an officer...

If an officer is going to take your knife, there isn`t a whole lot you can do about it. Quoting the law to is not going to impress him. It`s best to just hand it over and pick it up at the station later. Knife laws are a huge grey area and officer discretion is everything.

P.S.-Never argue with a cop!
