Hi to you all...
I've been all over the web & my books trying to identify the stamping on this knife blade...but I have had no luck. So thought I'd put it out there and see if one of you can help...I don't think it was made by the Hammer Brand or Robeson...all I can make out is the last part of the company's name that looks like ??????NSON, the logo of a hand holding the hatchet / hammer & MADE IN USA. I kind-a remember seeing this stamping but can't remember the company's name...Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I'm not really familiar with the stampings on these older slipjoints. But between the two you have mentioned, I would say Roberson, simply because of the -SON- on the tang.

You may want to ask a Mod to direct this to the Traditional Knife forum in Knife Specific Discussion. You will stand a better chance of getting some info I believe.

Thanks cutter17...
I'll try to figure out how to switch it to Traditional Knife forum as for the Robeson company ? Thats what I thought at first but under a loop I can see what looks like a very light stamped N in front of the SON in the pics...thats whats been messing with its identity for me...You can kind-a see it in the pic.
Thanks again for the info.
Mike

It doesn't really look like either to me. Bernard Levine's sub-forum would be the place to ask.

How about a picture of the whole knife? It might make idenifying a bit easier. I don't think its Johnson because the only johnson I know was a high quality maker in Sheffield.

here's the pic of the knife you asked for...11 7/8" blade with a slight sweep & stacked leather handle...what do you think?

Hmm, not what I was expecting to see! At first glance I am thinking its a decently made hommade knife from a file. I still haven't figured out that stamp, but looking at file brands may turn something up, if it is indeed a file knife. Interesting.
