hi,awhile back we had a discussion about a hammer brand stockman pattern that had bone looking handles but probably delrin, most who saw it generally agreed it was probably delrin. The threads were in july,if anybody wants to read them, the knife early 70s probably, anyway one just like it popped up on ebay, nice shape with a few scratches, unused .It was listed as hammer brand bone handled stockman, ebay number 200051921582,it just ended and it went well over 100.My question is if any of you look at this knife do you think its bone handled ,because the knife ive got is an exact copy, and im pretty sure its delrin. There is a pic of it in the earlier threads under hammer brand stockman.thank you.

The guy who purchased 200051921582 has 1130 feedbacks. I looked around in his bought list. Looks like serious sniper. If no one else replies with knowledge, you might try to ask him. If he bought it, he probably knows. He's bought a bunch of pretty nice knifes.

G'Day, 1695 inspections on 7 day auction must be some kind of record...unless that was you tthman rechecking the other 1694 times!
Gives an idea of how popular the older knives are becoming....knowledge is power! That looked like bone to me as well. Hoo Roo from Oz.

Does anyone know when the USA started appearing alongside Hammer Brand?
I know NYK co. started by using just the arm and hammer (I wonder if the baking soda company copied that?), and then added Hammer brand, but when did USA start appearing? And why did I ask the same question twice? I'm too tired to edit this, it's Monday, and it feels like it.

Dennis Ellingsen had an article in Knife World September of 2000 on Imperials. According to the info he presented, the vertical USA began circa 1955. We know Delrin pretty well replaced bone circa 1959-60.

hi, ill post a picture soon of the knife i have,im reasonably sure its the same knife,i posted back in july when we were trying to determine wheather it was bone or not,if its delrin its the best bone looking delrin ive seen, keep forgetting batteries for my camera, hopefully post it tommorrow.

Thanks Codger. It would help to see the stamping on the pile side.It sure does look like bone. Delrin usually looks more smooth and defined.

That knife is definitely Roger's bone, from the pic. No question as far as I can see. And I know the seller and he is very knowledgable.
