I got this knife in a twofer deal.It has the Hammer BRAND tang stamp with the hammer but it doesn't have the USA.I checked the search and other than the Outers thread there is no mention of these. Are these Imperial and for how long. The blade appears to be stainless. Thanks Arnold

Thanks Rick.I knew I'd seen that somewhere. It did come with another knife originally but I didn't get it.The picture on the Outers thread shows a Boyscout type knife,Arnold

Did Hammer Brand only exist from 1936-1955 or was that the only part of the chart that was shown? Was Hammer Brand a branch of Schrade or where did they come from?

Hammer Brand was a stamp used by The New York Knife Co. back in the early 1900's, which was later bought by Imperial who later also acquired Schrade. I'm not sure of all of the dates and particulars but most of it is here one the forum somewhere but it is hard to find with the search function. Maybe someone will come along with more details.

Lessee. Most of that is correct. Ulster bought Schrade circa 1946 after Ulster associated with Imperial during WWII, and then Schrade bought Imperial in the early/mid 1980's. I think Imperial bought the Hammer Brand mark formerly used by NYKC during the mid 1930's. It may now reside in the Taylor Brands collection of marks owned since they bought the patents and trademarks in 2004.

Pre 1941 Imperial catalog page.
Note how skinny the arm is.
