Hi everyone,
I am glad to announce Master Smith James Saviano will be comming down and doing a couple of demos for us.
Looks like he will show how he makes a fluted handle and also do a demo on making a Japanese habaki fitting.
More info to come.
Is there something you would like to see? Please let me know and I'll see if we can do it for you.
Hope to see a bunch of you there!
Mace

Man I wish one of these events were closer to me, I would love to attend one and learn a few things.

You wish they were closer to you?!?! Try living in Iowa! I figure the only way to get one here is to host it myself.

Hey, Mace, how tough is it to hold a hammer-in and how much equipment would you need?

Having a hammer-in isn't too hard....have a place, some anvils and forges, pick a date, find some people to do some demos and let as many people know about it ahead of time so they can show up! even if you didnt really have demos....you could get some people together and hammer some hot steel.

So, I think I got a decent line up for this one.
I will be forging a kitchen knife and also demo silver wire inlay into wood.

Mike Spangler will be doing blade grinding and heat treat with clay

Lynett Barber will be doing a metal raising demo

Barbara Wechter will be doing a foundry casting demo(hopefully a bronze sword!)

And Master Smith James Saviano will be doing flutted handles and making a Habaki(Japanese sword fitting)

We will have an open forge area and a raffle(donations please) Lunch will be made available.
Hope to see you there!
Mace

P.S. Penn. is not THAT far!

Mace will, of course, be using the steel he lifted out of the back of my truck to make that kitchen knife, which technically makes it mine! The last one he made me was stolen by my wife and she's been using it ever since. I'm coming up just to watch him forge it...................with a truck load of steel.

I am coming this time. I swear. Also, I just bought about 100ft of EIPS wire rope (1" diameter). If anybody wants to do any trading, let me know. Wood for handles, wrought iron, copper, brass, nickel silver... I am willing to sell or trade at least half of this. I am not trying to actually make any money, I paid about $4 per foot.

It should be fun.
