This past Saturday we had our 5th annual Hammer-in/pig roast her in Island Lake(about 35 miles NW of Chicago). The weather was great and we had a nice turn out.First off I'd like to thank all the makers that come out each year(and we get a few more every time).I can't say enough how much I enjoy doing this and watching you guys have at it!Also,I really appreciate that I get to keep the finished products and hang them up in the bar, these are really special pieces to me,THANK YOU!!
This year Bob thought that a D_guard bowie would be a good project, and everyone jumped in and made it happen.Bob Rossdeutscher and Jerry Rados did the forging,Peter Martin ground the blade,Tim Horan and Jeremy Marsh tag teamed the prep for clay heat treat and the final finishing to bring out the Hamon,Tim did the Clay treatment, handle wrap and sharpening,Ron rosenbaugh did some filework,Mark Nevling made the sheath, mary Rose did the scrimshaw, and Affelea Nevling made a glass bead dangler. They started banging steel around 9 a.m. and finished up around 5 p.m.
Here's the finished project,I'll be happy to post some in progress pics if you guys would liketo see them as well.

Hope you like the pics, sorry about the size...it took me hours just to get em reduced to that size, and I lost the patience to try again. As you can see,we don't have a shop,we are down in a park by the Fox River and everyone brings what they need, which,to me,always makes the finished product that much more impressive. It's a great day and I always am looking forward to the next one.

Thanks

Greetings All
Thanks to everyone who made this happen. If it wasn't for all of you, Rob and I wouldn't be able to do this. It's hard to believe that five years ago this all started with us having a beer and saying, " What if....". This years knife was a suggestion from Peter Martin and I think it turned out great. Thanks for all the comments and feedback.
Oh, and I was in a hurry, so I just grabbed my 10 lb. hammer. I could have brought my sweet 16 for Jerry to use.
