Hammer the pommel

Hey guys. I somewhat remember in an interview with E.B. that he said the actual purpose of the pommel of the handle was to be hammered on. I think he was talking about the BK2 at the time, but I assume this applies for any of the Becker line. Does anyone else remember this? And has anyone ever hammered on one their knives like this? I could see it being useful for the BK3 in an extraction.

Yeah, it was in part 2 of the E2E interview that Ethan did with Adam. That is why the extension is there. And there is actually going to be an extension on the new BK3's, I believe Ethan said. So, there. And yes, I have absolutely whooped the extendsion on all the knives that have them. 2, 5, 7, and 9. Works well.

I've hammered mine with a baton, although not very hard. I was working on the Atlatl at the time. I think it adds to the versatility, although I'm not sure how hard I want to hit it.
It's not like regular batoning...a slight miss and you'll hit you hand.

Cool thanks. I'm glad you can confirm it for me. In what application did you hammer on the end of the pommel with something, a hammer or baton maybe?

Moose, do you know if the new bk3 will be skeletonized? I figured It wouldn't, but would like to know anyway.

Wood baton. Nothing metal or rock, just wood.

I don't have gen 2 BK2, I have the gen 1 but it seems more useful to have it on a smaller knife like the BK2 then the BK9.

I have in fact been thinking on removing it from my BK9.

Mistwalker had a really nice pic series that showed what he did with a BK2 being hammered on the pommel. Look at his threads in here, it is one of those from about 2-3 months back. Made a really nice square notch in a log. Heck, he coulda built us a cabin.

I used it as sort of a chisel to remove wood cleanly from underneath the hooked portion on my atlatl. It did a cleaner job than scraping it.I hit it with a piece of wood.

I don't have the balls to hit it really hard while I'm holding it, although I'm sure the knife is strong enough to take it.

Thanks yall, I'll look up Mistwalker's thread and see what it's all about. It seems like a really useful function. I like tools that have multiple functions, and I like the idea of this one. Thanks for all the feedback.

Moose, I think we were posting @ the same time so you missed this.

Yup I did. As far as I know, it won't be. The other knives, the skeletonized handles are there to work out the balance point. The BK3 doesn't have one, me thinks.:D

Big, chunk of metal built for destruction.
