This years featured demonstrator will be Jim Batson (former chairman of the board of the ABS). Event will take place March 8th and 9th 2003 at Lonesome Pine Forge (Larry Harley's). Saturday's lunch will be provided and prepared by Jim Prill. Cost of the event is $50.00, limited to the first forty-(40) participants. Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, contact Larry Harley by clicking here.

This event will be geared toward a small informal gathering rather than a large hammer-in filled with nothing but demonstrations.

While the official dates are 8th and 9th, on Friday Len Landrum will demonstrate the proper way to heat treat 52100 and James Gibson will demo how to forge a blade to shape.

Some time during the weekend James will also demo flint knapping.

I am asking all participants to bring projects you are working on and I’m also asking that you bring something that didn't quite workout or something you are having trouble with or questions about.

This should facilitate the leaning experience.

We will also have an iron in the hat Sat. afternoon. Please bring something for the iron in the hat.

I will have several forging stations set up so that participants will have the opportunity for hands-on after demos. Please bring your own steel.

There are several cheap no-tell motels close by and I will also provide limited camping for those who wish it.

There’s been a rumor floating around that there are several pickers and players showing up. If you play an instrument, please feel free to bring it and pick with us.

Go to www.Mapquest.com and type in 348 Deerfield Drive Bristol, TN
for directions from where you are.

This sounds like a really fun weekend and with live entertainment it is well worth the $50 I wish I lived about 1000 miles closer.

I will? Someone better learn me how, real quick! ;)
I sure would like to go to that! I will have to see if I can get a kitchen pass. How long do you think it will take to fill up?

Larry,

Count me in! Wahoo! I'd drive a million miles for Jim Prill's briskett lunch.

See ya in few months.

I think that I will try to make it there! TN is my old stomping grounds!

Besides, I am hoping to have one of Rob Frink's grinders by then and I can let 'em know how well it works.

Here's the James Gibson in question. He is at the anvil with Ron Claiborne standing to the left cranking the blower on the forge. This photo was taken last June year at Bowie's.

Len Landrum's heat treat demo is by far the most informative single source of info on grain refinement that I have ever seen. Even if you think you know your heat-treating....this demo will open your eyes and make you go "hmmmm". Last year, he processed a blade that was then put through the ABS requirements for chopping, cutting and the 90 degree bend. More than just heat and quench... as he refined the grain in a sample piece, he broke off sections so we could see the improvement step by step.... Great stuff!

Rob: Like I said before "You are a Hammer-In Junkie". You didn't get the cable done from my hammer-in???
The belt came in. Let me know on the pulleys.
