I'm curious if anyone has any experience with using a hammock while backpacking/camping/etc. I'm looking at the hennessy hammock but that's because its the only one I know about. Anyone recommend another that would be comparable but cheaper. BTW the link to the one I was looking at is: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=16749 , sorry don't know html. Damn thing went up $30 overnight to 179(CDN) which equates to about 110 USD!

I only need it till I can start building debris huts but tarps from the local hardware store are to big and bulkly and tarps that are meant for camping are around the same price.

Thanks for any info,
Derek

I've backpacked with a hammock. I find sleeping on the ground more comfortable than in a hammock. Whether you find a hammock to be a comfortable way to sleep is particular to your individual body. Just because it doesn't work for me doesn't mean it won't for you. At those prices, see if you can borrow someone else's to try, first.

The Hennessey hammock is a neat trick. Look at WWW.REI.com, or Hennessey's web site. Ground sleeping doesn't work for me with three herniated disc's, but the Hennessey lets me sleep "flat" since you sleep across it, not in a swag in the middle..

Thanks for the info on the hammocks and experiences. The one from the sportsman guides looks good and is reasonably prices. But by the time I import it up here to Canada with the exchange rate and additional shipping it will only be about $50 cheaper so I might as well buy the Hennessy esp if its allows you to sleep without caving in.

BTW I e-mailed MEC as to why the price jumped and they said its a new model this year, the Expedition instead of the Cocoon. New model has full velcro, new bark saving webbing and more gear pockets.

Thanks again,
Derek
