Starting reading threads on the Hammocks Forum and decided to make one based on recommendations found in the DIY forum. I bought about $14 worth of material and used some other things I had on hand to put it together. As I get more experienced in sleeping in one I will refine the design.

Took a two hour nap in it today. It is balling!:D

Nice - always great to see another person getting into hammocks. They are the best way to spend a night in the woods, bar none.

You might want to think about using some strapping to wrap your trees though - depending on the species of tree, it can cause some serious damage, and perhaps more importantly, using straps helps keep people from getting their panties in a bunch about you tying off to trees, especially when you're on public land.

I was reading up on the various designs in use that involve straps yesterday. That is the way I'm going due to my belief in LNT and for ease of use. I simply used what I had on hand when I put this one up on Sat.

Hopefully in the next week or two I will have some more pics in that regard.

I love hammocks, but I never thought about building my own. Nice job! :)

You've probably looked at it already, but the whoopie sling / strap combo is nice and compact, and pretty light. I made up an all-in-one version with the whoopie slings permanently attached to the tree straps, because I don't like dealing with toggles or the chance of leaving the tree straps behind.

I described my version of this suspension in this thread:
