Hamon ?

I cant tell if thats a hammon or the damascus.....Are you talking about closer to the 10 " mark?

Area between 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 inch area looks like clay,Satanite, etc.,may have fallen off or stayed in place better than the rest of the coated edge.

Looks like the ashi gets close, but it looks like a very fine blade and hamon to me!

Like BL said it is confusing as to whether or not some of what we see is Damascus laminations. The Edge to me looks like it is at the top of the pic.The Spine and (I don't know Sword terminology) what looks to be a Fuller is at the btm. of the pic. What looks like a Fuller to me could also be an optical illusion. It looks awesome to me too Burch. And there is a real good chance that I am totally WRONG on all of my perceptions.:D

I could be wrong, but I think the line you're following as the hamon is simply a delineation of the layering in the steel.

The hamon is the lighter shadow above that. *Edited to say* above it in the photo. I also believe the photo is of the blade edge up. That looks to be a fuller at the bottom side (spine of the blade).

I'd bet at least a wooden nickel on this :)

Also, I'll up my bet to TWO wooden nickels :D

I also(now) see what you may be talking about at the 8 -3/4 to 8-7/8 mark on the scale side. You could be correct.

The blade edge is the side with the ruler.

I will take a new picture and highlight the exact area.

Thanks to all
