Hamons

Yep. I think NJSB has 15n20 with a very low Mn count. I think Warren K did some knives with hamons on NJSB 15n20 a few years back.

Groovy. I have a chef knife I'm working on in 15n20, and I thought it might be cool to add a bit of interest to the blade.

If anyone has done this and has some pictures, I would love to see them.

It will almost always make some sort of suguha hamon. Maybe not striking, but clearly there. Use the lower end of HT temps and a fast oil.

How low do you think I can go with the HT, Stacy? My blade has an edge around 8", with a profile around 1.75" and less than 1/8" thick. I don't want to risk it breaking with hard use.

1450° for 10 minutes and then quench in fast oil. Immediately into quench plates to prevent warp. The thin edge will harden fully. The thicker and clay coated areas will be slower and show a line.

Make sure to pre grind your edge before clay and hardening, you want you edge thickness pre ht .040-.060
