I was told that ******** would be moving all of the Hand American products about a month ago and they're all up and with no increase in price from the original HA products.

I got the 21 carat 1 micron and .5 mcron sprays for my 2 new strops. In order to get free shipping I needed to get a couple more bucks in my cart.

Knifenut1013 always mentions 3 micron DMT paste (which they didn't have) so I bought a bottle of 2 micron silicone carbide green paste - also an HA product.

Removed for deal spotting.

I don't know what I should use the 2 micron paste on. I have an old strop that's hard & smooth surfaced or should I use balsa or some other harder base for it? Anyone?

They sure do have some nice stuff. But some of those prices  !!!
$79 for the borosilicate glass rod? I had mine made for me at a chemical supply shop and paid under $5. But that Horsehide strop at $16 is a great buy, and if used without compound makes the very best 'final' strop available other than the expensive horsehide barber strops! And those bottles of Silicon carbide and CrO2 are well priced too, and when used correctly, should last a lifetime! I made the mistake of buying TWO bottles when I ordered about 15 years ago, and still have only used less than half of the first bottle! (Including some that I spilled...:o )

Thanks for the mention guys. It's been a lot better since Mark has taken over distributing the products. I think a lot of people thought our prices would go up when we sold through distributors but having that kind of help offsets a lot of labor and packaging costs.

Mark's group is a real class act, orders are going out the same day!!

The balsa is very cool. Mark has it on hand as a convenience but what I like about it is that it provides a nice substrate for either paste or dry compound, it's readily available, and dirt cheap as opposed to leather.

CZIV - if you have the 2 micron green SiC paste go ahead and use it on the balsa, you'll like it. You should also try compounds on card stock too, it works very well.

Stitch - thanks for the comment on the horse leather pricing. We bring it in as a semi soft rolled hide, saturate it with emollients and then harden it. You don't need any compound on this particular hide.

Our borosilicate rod deserves some explanation, I'll take care of that on my site which will consist mostly of product info and some video work.

Thanks again, I appreciate it,
Keith

Looking forward to that informational stuff Keith. Mark has the products I needed priced fairly so I was glad you made the switch. I'll be waiting to read your material when you get it posted.

Apology to the Mods. The site in question is the only place to buy these products. I didn't think I was showing any deals. Sorry 'bout that. :)

I just wanted to say that I consider the Hand American borosilicate rod I purchased from Keith to be one of my better sharpening investments. It works extremely well and has an nice anti-roll handle & horsehide sheath. His products are first rate and this one is no exception. Sure it's not cheap, but neither are the knives I use it on.

Thanks Brisket, very nice of you to write that. I see you're in Texas - that explains the handle.

I want to smoke a clod one day, I have a horizontal smoker from New Braunfels (sp?) with a side burner. I've done a lot of birds & pork in it but never one of those big fellas.

CVIZ - I didn't know what 'deal spotting' was so I looked it up:

No deal spotting

Yes, we know you found a great price on the Ninja Disembowel 4000 at SuperPriceMART. We don't care. We'd prefer you support the dealers who support BladeForums.com.

As such, we don't allow deal spotting because otherwise the forums would be a quagmire of "deals" (real or imagined) posted everywhere, or unscrupulous people posting "deals" for non paying dealers. So don't do it.

Makes sense, I don't think the distributor mentioned is a member. I think it's OK to direct members to my site so they can glean what info they seek.

I'm finally taking the time to switch servers this week so the site will be updated. All of the support info can be found there in a little while.

Hi Keith,

I didn't get the balsa for the 2 micron. Is there anything around the house I can use to strop with until I order some balsa wood? Thanks! :)

Actually a pine or fir 2x4 cut off works pretty well.
Keith

Thanks! My wife has a line on some balsa at a craft shop but I don't know when she'll be going over there. Tomorrow my Hand American compunds will arrive.

I re-profiled my ZT 0301 (big thick blade) to about 40* inclusive on DMT stones. It already looks like a mirror to the naked eye but in bright light, with a magnifying glass it looks all scrathed up.

I'm hoping to get rid of all that with the 2 micron, 1 micron and .5 micron stropping carefully at eack stage. It already glides through copy paper like a very thin Spyderco blade.

It took 4 hours using 5 diamond stone grits to get it where it is now. What a beast of a blade and in S30V too. I didn't do all this for fun. It's a new knife but the 1st one that (out of the box) would get hung up when attempting to slice through printer paper. Not quite sharp enough for my taste.
