Whatever became of this company?I got this soft Arkansas stone in a cedar box with a leather strop on the lid and a bottle of green chromium oxide powder from them about ten years ago.I went to the website recently to find they no longer sell except through another retailer. This stone was the widest I could find when I got it and one side has some visible marks from the saw but the other is perfectly flat.Any way just curious about the reason they dont sell direct anymore.

Hand American sold some of the very best sharpening supplies 15-20 years ago.
Keith offered one of the largest selections of very high quality compounds at very good prices. His strop selections, and there were quite a few in different configurations, were worth the money. While there were a few leathers that really weren't all that special, none were 'bad,' just not so special. The double-sided bench mount or the magnetic bench mounts were a nice addition to the sharpening bench. With the exception of his Borosillicate Glass rod, everything he sold was well placed and of the highest quality. I still have a dozen different leather strops and half a dozen different jars or bottles of compounds still in my supply closet. Every year he would come out with new, but high quality products and I would buy them all!

But he couldn't ship. You place an order and you waited. And waited. And waited. E-mail after e-mail... and still nothing arrived. And this happened year after year after year. I guess people finally got tired of waiting. I know that I did.

If he had put someone else in charge, and just handled the back end of the business, he'd have the Number One sharpening supply company today. No question about it.

One of my orders arrived on time... Out of about 4-6 different orders. One of them (the last one) took several months and half a dozen e-mails.

It's a shame, too. As I said before, Keith put out some really great products, and to this day have found no better. His liquid Chromium Oxide (of which I still have 1 1/2 bottles after almost 20 years,) is the very best I've come across, which is why I bought two bottles to begin with. I've overused the stuff and still have only gone through half a bottle in all that time! When it comes to compounds, you don't need much!
