What'd ya hit BeastClaw BeastClaw ?

One looks like a tear that may could be steeled over, the other looks like a dent or compression. But the pics are hard for my 50+ year old eyes to see.

First option, I'd send it to the shop, but it sounds like that's off the table for your own reasons.

Second option, there's a good number of Hogs here who you could send it to and get a pretty decent turnaround at a great price.

My third option would be to attempt to steel out as much damage as possible and use it as is and wait till I sharpened it out naturally. That may take the rest of my life however to get her back to flawless waiting on sharpenings on an as-needed basis. Sounds like you may not be satisfied with that, either.

But if you're bound & determined to do it yourself, this may be informative for ya:

I'd make it a therapeutic/after work type thing spread out over however much time it took. With the change that I'd "strop" all the way to the spine <of course> since you want a full convex rather than sabre to convex transition as he executes.

You realize you may have to hog off a lot of INFI, right? May even be considered so radical a modification it perhaps could void your warranty.

I hope someone who's had to do this has better, easier, and more INFI sacrificing advice than me.

I’ve done that to my DS8. Let go of ‘needing’ to have a working knife in perfect picture order. I rolled & chipped & gave my DS8 no quarter...it still cuts like a Busse should and performs flawlessly. Doesn’t cut paper too smoothly, but it’s a combat knife not a paper shredder.

I took my DS8’s deformities off with a Sharpmaker. It’s not perfect but it works very well as working knife. I only have one spot that didn’t recover easily. It’s liberating to just not give a shit.

Combat knives should have scars...

...even if it’s from suburbia.

That knife had serious edge damage and all was corrected with a Sharpmaker. I was surprised at how easily it shapened out. I’ve never sharpened a knife until the DS8. I totally get what @Jerry Busse is doing with his steel. As advertised...

*side note: the pic is from my edge correction. It was really bad. I had 3 one inch sections completely rolled. Many chips on the edge and one large gouge on the edge’s upsweep (what I show).

Thanks for the info Petey. Appeared to be a piece of barbed wire.
You confirmed what I thought.....that to repair the blade back to "new", I would have to remove a lot of steel. You are correct about one of the areas being rolled over. I sort of corrected that with one of my stones. The other does appear to be smashed. The knife is definitely a user, so I may just continue to use it and sharpen it as normal but doubt I will use it enough to be able to fully sharpen the injuries out over time.

And as HST said, these are just battle scars on combat knife that lives in Suburbia.

I see that just like getting that first dent in a new truck- you finally get to use the damn thing and you've stepped into the next level of ownership.
And I can't give enough thumbs up for HST but this is the damn truth (It’s liberating to just not give a shit) and the main reason I've got to enjoy my Batac so damn much to the point I love it more than ever because I can use it for whatever the hell I want and it will still at any moment cut the hell out of me if I underestimate it's awesomeness :D
