I am playing with the hammer trying to remember how to forge. This one came out pretty good. This is "French style" kitchen knife.
Stainless steel (440). Hand forged from round bar from one piece. Tapered tang.
Blade is 6-1/2" long, 1" wide, 1/8" thick near the bolster and evenly tapered to the tip. It is ~1/32 at the tip. Hardened to ~54HRC and tempered as a spring. It is flexible but not flimzy.
Walnut sculpted scales with 3 brass rivets. Rivets has a Nickel Silver heads. I made very simple engraving on them. Finished with tung oil.
It has a simple pouch to keep from scratches and to prevent cutting yourself. This one came out very sharp, so puch was really required.
So what do you think guys?
