I'm looking for a hand held mini computer to check emails and check forums, and maybe use word documents and excel. Any ideas what to get?

Thanks in advance :D

I would like it to be wireless, with maybe a option dia up or cable. I'm really a new-be with High Tech stuff.

Hand held with Word or Excel capabilities means either Pocket PC or Palm. If you use Outlook a lot, go with the PocketPC. Ability to browse and check email wirelessly, means one of the Cellular verisons of the two. For Palm based, the current model is the Treo 650. For PocketPC, I'd hold off, as none of the units on the market has performed well. But there are lots of PocketPC models out there with built in Bluetooth and 802.11G wireless which lets you browse when you're near a hot spot.

Hi,

Take a peek at the HP's Business range on www.hp.com. There are options that have bluetooth Wi-Fi, cell and wireless lan. Most Microsoft products are available on some of the more powerfull options.

It would be best to check what you want in the coms department as these are powerful but expensive tools. (multiple of knives)

I have a Treo Smartphone - it allows me to access the wbe and e-mail and is a phone and PDA. Either that or a Blackberry (I chose the Treo because I was already using the Palm OS).

I have an IPAQ 5450 and an IPAQ 6340. Both have WIFI and Bluetooth and the 6340 has GPRS which means dialup at 54kbps when I'm on the road.

I read bladeforums with them at least once a day. I would suggest a PocketPC because Palm is losing market shares for every new model, they even have a PDA with Microsoft's OS :D

The next version will be based on the PocketPC OS, but the look and feel will remain Palm-like. Since you can easily run Java applettes on a PocketPC, most of the existing Palm software port should be pretty clean, but expect some bugs with existing software being used. You are entering the MS world afterall.

I got a Sprint PPC 6700 a few weeks ago. So far, I'm pretty happy. It runs Pocket Windows, Word, Excel, Exchange, IE, etc.

Sprint's Powervision wireless internet acces rocks. And its got WiFi too.

I'm posting from it right now.
