Does anyone have recommendations for good quality small, handheld pick/mattock tools? Something like the geological/brick hammers that work on tough soil in tight confines where a full-sized pick is too large and cumbersome?
The old army surplus picks are the best. There are some new Chinese one-handed pick mattocks that aren't too bad so long as you recognize their limitation. The steel will break if used hard on rocks. But for most work they are fine.
