I was wondering how a hand rubbed satin finish holds up to use. Is it possible to scratch it up just by cutting paper? Any info would be helpful.

It holds up suprisingly well in regular EDC use. I have one with a 154cm blade and after about 3 years in the rotation (once to twice a week) it has some scratches but nothing that I would say uglies it up or ruins the look.

I'll post some pics when I get home.

I have a John Kubasek custom in BG42 with a hand rub finish, its about 8yrs old and has held up amazingly well to all types of use and abuse

it is quite possible that the steel type
could just as much determine just how much a surface would be adversely
affected.
perhaps in instances where soft steel
is pitted against much harder grainy material?

How it holds up depends entirely on the user. I'm about to find out for myself. Just got a hand-rubbed S35VN Sendero Classic, from White River Knife and Tool. I know it's probably not, but I'm calling it the world's most expensive box-knife. It doesn't really matter to me, I bought it as a user, knowing it will get scratched and dinged. Real use adds character....
