O.k., I'm hand sanding green g-10 and it isn't all that fun. G-10 is definitely different than Micarta! It is very porous and I have black specks in some of the pores. Sanding these out takes much longer than on Micarta.

Newbies, if hand sanding G-10, be prepared to be there for awhile!

I usually do the shaping on the contact wheel of the belt sander or with files, then use 220 and 400 sandpaper. never had any trouble with it. I also oil it down after I am done. Ivory micarta, i had the same prob with the dirt specs in, though.

Taz: I have read that the dirt specs are from buffing brass pins and such. The buff goo goes into the pores. I think that is what happened here. I think I fixed it up now. By the way, I did try rubbing alcohol and baby oil. Hand sanding and concentrating on my buffing technique worked way better.

Once I get some new belts and such, I think I'll be able to get through knife making without half of the problems I'm encountering now!

I'm not after a super grip for a robo-ninja killing knife. I'm after beauty on this knife. A buffed grip will be adequate for grip, and will look beautiful. Besides, it got the black specks out! :)

Ahhh..ok. I just never heard of anyone buffing G10. People suualy go up to 400 for a good, grippy finish, and can hand sand up higher if they want.
