I want to hand sand some G10 scales on my TGLB before putting it up for sale as there are a few marks on them.

What grit should I shape with and what should I finish with to achieve roughly the same "shine" they came with from the shop?

Thanks!

no offense but depending on the handles I would leave them as is. Also there is a member actively looking for a TBLB and might be interested as is. just saying. A few lines add character in my book. As to grits, the Busse G10 I have is not so shiny to be honest. The grits I use when making my own blades are 80 to 120 for shaping depending on material I want to remove, then 220, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, then wet sand at 2000 and it will be mirror or close to it. For a handle it should not take too much. Sometimes you can get a pack with a few sheets of each grit in the finer sizes. Finish grit packs or wet sanding packs. I sand at different angles then I can see the previous sanding lines, sand with next grit until they are gone, move the higher grit, repeat. I finish mine off on the buffer with some red then white polishing compound and its just about a mirror by then or at least close enough for me. I use 80/120/220 for 80% to 90% of all sanding. The rest is just polish.

G10 dust is very nasty to the lungs because of the glass fibers. Work outside, and wear a good dust mask.

IMHO, leave it alone. Modded knives don't necessarily sell well. You are likely to put hours of work into it for a negligible return. YMMV.

rg has solid advice...

I'll also echo his and Larry's suggestion to keep your Busse as close to factory as possible if you're looking to maximize your margin...

I've found that honest "character" marks from genuine use are appreciated on the Exchange over customizations-- even well rendered ones...

Busse Custom Shop mods are the exception to this rule...they can greatly increase collector value.

Put it up on the Exchange as is and see what happens...Combine the fact that the appetite for TG's isn't even close to being sated + you're a trusted member with OUTSTANDING feedback = a $OLD TGLB within minutes

trust us on this one...we're professionals

so quit teasing us...give up the goods and post this blade already!

Cheers for the input Petey and Resin, again, it's appreciated

I thought it would be nice if I cleaned it up a bit for the next guy but I will follow your advice and not touch it.

so quit teasing us...give up the goods and post this blade already!

Soon!!! Giving this aussie guy one more day to respond...i'm nice like that :D If he doesn't, well, his loss!!
