How would i go about this? i heard you can just use your grinding wheel..... put on the belt and work left to right.... but will this have any effect on the shape of the wheel? what are some other good ways?

Michael, I have heard of folks buying blocks of micarta, cutting it to the wheel radius, and sanding with those. I use a couple pieces of heavy leather glued together; it molds to any hollow and provides a nice firm backing. Takes a little practice to avoid washin out lines, but works well.

Michael, go to the lumber yard, Home depot or whatever store and get one of those rubber sanding block that have a slot in the ends with nails to hold the sand paper. Thy have one flat side and one rounded side, the round side is 4" radius [fits a 8" wheel] put the sand paper on the round side and sand away, works great. Thy will also fit a 10" dia grind just flex it out some. I cut mine into 3 pieces about 3/4 to 1" wide just make sure you have a nail in each end thy work better that way. Also works for a flat or convex grind.

I do it with the Grinder wheel at times, it hasn't hurt it yet.
just keep the belt tight so it don't slip back and forth..

you can also use hockey pucks. Just hold them against your grinding wheel. mark the radius and cut out the puck on your band saw. Conforms to the hollow you want to sand and if you know anyone who plays hockey, you can get old ones for free.
