Hand sanding plung lines

OK so I understand how to hand file the plunge lines and the bevels for the most part but hand sanding the final portions I have issues trying to get that portion sanded without it ending up all uneven looking as far as the rest of the sanding is going. If I sand up and down then I cant seem to keep a even look all the way thru.

Just kind of wondering how you guys that finish up hand sanding get this area done. Thanks.
