Quick handsanding tip. Not sure if other people use this but I haven't heard anyone mention it so I thought I would.

I have long been hurting my fingers holding the sandpaper on to the block. You need to cramp up your fingers and push with them which just leaves them hurtin. Get some double sided carpet tape.

I tried another double sided tape a while ago and it was thick (so it made it like a soft backed sanding stick) and wouldn't stay stuck when it got wet from wet sanding. Carpet tape is really thin and stick very well to the block and the paper and doesn't wash out crisp lines.

I am always looking for hand sanding tips! Anything to make it better.:D
Biggest tip I can give is USE RHYNOWET REDLINE sheets. I did an 8 inch bowie with some junk paper and it took at least 2 times as long as another similar sized camp knife.

Does carpet tape stick when wet sanding with oil?
I haven't tried it with oil yet. I use windex. I assume it would act similar. Just make sure you wipe off the sanding stick every time you add tape.

Only problem I have had with it so far is that it likes to stick to the paper more than the stick (if its a wood sanding stick) so you can't reuse one piece of tape. Sticks great to plastic or metal.

my hand sanding tip would be when you finish your last grit size at a 45 degree angle to the previous grit size, go 45 degrees again a second time with the final grit to be positive you got out all the earlier scratches.

The #1 hand-sanding tip is to get really good at grinding.
Good point. Also a disc grinder can speed up hand sanding by a large amount.

For sure! Absolutely necessary. Otherwise there is no way to tell.

Have you tried the spray adhesive? I like it sometimes. It can be a good tool sometimes, but if you’re using wd40 it won’t hold well.

Yeah that works well too. Sometime I have found it finicky because you need to let it tack up a bit and I always put in on the stick to early or too late.

Idl bet feathering adhesive would be a good option for this as well.
I used that once. Worked well. It was just the last bit we had in the tube so I haven't used it much.

I've switched from the feathering adhesive ( shout out to Nick Wheeler ) to the repositionable 3M spray. Works just the same IMO so that could be an alternative.

Which spray is this you are speaking about?? Does it have a name? I'm interested :)

What's wrong with just holding it with your fingers?
I press down with my thumbs, it doesn't take a lot of strenght.
Don't pinch, press down

My tip wuld be:
When changing grits, wash/wipe down everything - the sanding block, the blade, your hands. Toss the paper twoewls you were using, too. It only takes one stray grit to ruin a hand sanding job.

Lower grit is EVIL! That 100 grit particle will sit quietly until you get to 1000 grit ... then. It will make you curse. If you are someone who does not curse, the second time it happens will teach you how.
