hand satin/stripping abrasives

I just stripped my BAe and it came out buttery smooth and almost gorgeous. I'll get some pics up tonight. The only problem is there is some coating residue on one side where I was sloppy that is too thin to scrape off.

Dose anybody have any experience with an abrasive that would remove the coating residue and leave the decarb?

I really am digging the decarb but I'll probably satin it anyway. Has anybody tried hand rubbing with black and green stropping compound? I might try it just for science, or I might try a scotchbrite wheel, but I'm on vacation this week so I have some time to play around.

When i worked as a welder we used to stripp stuff before welding. The residue you are mentioning is something we used to see all the time but we found that more often than not the stripper had done enough damage to the paint/epoxy ...So all that was needed was a blast with the steamer, if you don't have a high pressure steamer/washer i bet boiling water and a brush will do the job..
