Hey all -

I know this has been done before, but I still think it's fun to show some knife pimping. I actually did two of these up with hand satin blades - one I am keeping, and the one in the pictures is currently up for grabs in the "For Sale" section.

I hand satin finished the blade down to 1000 grit paper. I also mirror polished the blade pivot area - as a result, the blade snaps open with super smooth action. I've done a number of hand satin finishes before, and I'm not a pro, but I've been pretty happy with my results on this one.

The only bummer is that there are a few small pre-existing pits in the 410 series steel layers that are sandwiched around the SG2 core. The blade still looks great, but the pits are too deep to sand out. The original beadblast finish hides them nicely, but satin finishes make them more visible.

The biggest complaint I hear about this particular knife is that the clip is to big and wide - so I have narrowed and re-shaped the clip for more discreet pocket carry. I did two differnet versions, but this one is the narrowest.

Anyhow, here are the pics:

I love satin finishes. That makes me think the perfect JYD is a titanium handle and satin S30V blade (sorry, not a fan of the "combo" steel blades).

Count me as a satin finish fan too. I think it adds a touch of class to the blade.

Nice work, jimmer!

As do I like the satin finish, nice work..I love the sharpness of sg2,it's the sharpest knife I've ever got out of the box.I whittled hair with factory edge.I wish they made more knives in this steel, far better then s30v a true pure powder steel.Does anybody know where it's made and where I can find it's element data?????

thx gine.

I recently got into SG2, and currently its my favorite. I own a TON of sharp knives, but SG2 gets put in its own category of SCARY sharp. I remember just testing the edge with a finger rub, and looking at the edge and going, WOW, thats some dead skin cells, and I just BARELY touched it. I might shave with my JYD soon just for giggles.

Nice nice stain finish...Im not brave enough to try...

gine,

I believe it is of Japanese origin.
I believe it is also called Super Gold 2.
I believe know it is expensive. :D

Yes, thanks I just found out it's japanese made.!!
But no luck yet on the elements,I was just curious to see how much carbon, chromium, molybdenum or even vandium.:D

thx gine.

I love mine so much I bought another to put in the safe just in case. I keep thinking I should get one more. I have redundancy issues.

I was the one that purchased this knife from Jim and it arrived today and I couldn't be happier with it. The hand-polish looks great and the flipper action is effortless and as smooth as silk. I also have to agree that the SG2 steel is incredible and the edge on this blade is the sharpest production one I own. The clip is also much improved over the factory. Great job, Jim!
