I'm looking to by my first handgun. Does anyone know of any gun internet forums the quality of Bladeforums that can help educate a rookie?

Thanks in advance,

GG

Greg there is alot of choices to make upon your new (or used) purchase. I do ask you to please keep S&W out of your choices. This is a long story if your not aware. but this British owned company could care less about your rights to own a firearm. All the other companies do.

Tell me your wants and needs as a requirement ( size, cost, target? self defense?)and I could suggest a few.

Frank:
Here's what I'm looking for: Autopistol, NOT a micro or small compact,
Preferably 9mm or .40 S&W, but others considered (Kinda have a thing for the 1911's) 99% target, varmint, no carry expected, prefer stainless but would consisder other finishes.Small enough that my wife with medium size hands can occasionally use it. Quality and accuracy VERY important.. Cost? Under 50 bucks!! Seriously, If I find a gun that trips my trigger (sorry!) I'll pay low to medium custom prices to find just what I want.

Thanks in advance!

Greg,

Just picked up your post...a couple more thoughts. Though I am a committed Glockaholic if you have a predisposition to go with a 1911 config you really need to look hard at the Kimber lineup. Probably the best production 1911 available. Many features and qc is in the order of all but the very best of customs. Also more places to look at to learn take a look at uspsa.org, this will get you to a group of serious shooters with a depth of experience of really making a gun work...look at the guest list...sale forum. You don't need to shoot ipsc to appreciate the wealth of info available to you from this group....these folks shoot LOTS of rounds in a competitive environment....really eliminate all the equipment that doesn't make the grade or doesn't last.

Thanks for all your input, guys!!! Think I'm gonna get a Glock 19 first, but then if this gun hobby is anything like my knife hobby, I'll soon have a Kimber, then a HK, then a....

Greg

Personally, I think the G19 is a great choice.
