handguns and knives- as personal as they get

I have noticed that a lot of knifeknuts are also into firearms, and I got to thinking about what attracts me to these tools/weapons, particularly large fixed blades and handguns.

I think that guns and knives are signiture pieces of sorts. A person's choice of tools (assuming they made a real choice) is a statemtn of sorts. From "tactical knives" to gentleman's slipjoints with abalone scales, from an engraved Detective Special to a Strayer Voight racegun, opinions (of people int he know) are formed based on what you carry, and a preson's self-image, style or lifestyle predicts to a great extent what they choose to carry.

Thoughts? What do your knives/guns say about you?

I do not own a firearm. However I went to the range with my MilSci 12 class yesterday to fire the M-16 (my instructor was really impressed with my group BTW and let me keep my target). My fill in instructor for the last three or four weeks was there as well. He has always seemed like a good guy but a little strange. Well at the range I noticed that he had a BM clipped to his gear. It was the Pardue axis tanto. I thought he must be a good guy. So after I shot I shot the breeze with him for a few and we checked out each other's knives. I did not get to shoot the M9 pistol because I am in MS1 and only MS2s got to shoot the pistol. I asked him about it and he went to bat for me to try to get them to let me shoot the M9. They did not have enough ammo, but it was more than he had to do. So, bottom line, BM= down to earth, friendly people if a little strange and misunderstood at times.

what school are you at? I was unpleasantly surprised to find out how little we get to play with the toys here at West Point.

I am at Mizzou (we just beat UCLA). I am not in ROTC but I am taking MilSci courses. Had a letter to Annapolis, but decided that I wanted to do something that the Navy really did not gel well with. I really like the MilSci courses though. We rappelled last semester and we get to rappel again here after break. Sucks that you do not get to play with the toys as much as you had hoped. Good luck at West Point.

...with the toy guns again...lol :p

Ya know Rick, I was thinking about you last night...I had the 5.5" Colt 'Cowboy' SAA in .45LC out, along with the Mike Irie MFK...

It looked to be a good combo, and I thought about your pics...I shoulda taken a pic for ya, we both woulda gotten a laugh outta that one...

"Yup, uhhuh, yup, et's me daily carry, yup, nuttin' like 'real steel' for a man like me, yup..." :D

Stiletto, some of us were "Gun Ho's" before we ever knew knives were 'cool'...

Mel,

Between this post and your love of revolvers. you are older than your years. :D

"Stiletto, some of us were "Gun Ho's" before we ever knew knives were 'cool'..."

Mel. you have a way with words that I wish I had. :)

Boy...I don't need much of an invitation to jump in here. I have a big-time passion for handguns (and firearms in general). Though I love knives, like we all do, I think my "passion" for handguns is stronger. Here's a couple recent scans of my knife/handgun combos:

Handguns and knives go very nicely together. I don't know which I prefer more.

Both can become much more than tools once you have found the right one (or ones!).

I for one try to match each of my customs to a handgun. This set is the one I use on my walks in the woods.
