Quadraplegic with limited use of hands.
:) I've been in a wheelchair 44 years, but in 1999I was devasted by surgeries for an aortic aneurism and a bowel resection. During this period, I thought occupying my mind with an effort at knife making might help me survive. I bought a barebones small Fronteir kit from Janz and went to work with no skill or training.

Hopefully, you can see a half-way decent foto of it without the final polishing of handle or blade. Please send me feedback

IF the link works, you should see a half-way decent foto of my 1st, 90 perent finished knife.

THANK YOU,
JIM RAYFIELD

THE PICTURE IS WAY TOO BIG. I'm sorry about that. It even magnifies my short-comings. But wait until you see my next effort made with o-1 steel, osage orange, and brass from scratch. Jim Rayfield

Yep, the image is way too large, but I see some potential there. One thing I don't like are the little nodules on the guard. They look like a couple of rows of tonsils. That's also not a good angle to show off the knife. It is better to get a shot directly from the side and from the top. It is very difficult to make out the lines of the knife from that angle.

Jim,
Looks good to me.:thumbup:How much do you anticipate polishing the blade?
Do you have pinch grip in your hands,I guess what I'm asking is what is your level of spinal injury?
:)You are at a very good place to learn whatever you may want to.:cool:
Keep us posted and welcome to Bladeforums. :D

Doug:)

MY PHOTOGRAPHY IS HORRID. I can't work well with these digital cameras. The photo/ link shot in other message is even worse. The O-1 blade on that knife acually gleams like a mirror and you can shave with it. The Osage Orange handle glows like butter. What looks like a rough finish must be a nearly black reflection from the dark cieling. I NEED SOFTER BOUNCED UMBRELLA
LIGHT.The guard I planned to replace. Got carried away with a bad idea. The buttcap needs much fininshing, but my ego\pride is driving me toward working from scratch and my own designs. I'm right handed, but can only use fingers of my left hand which has no feeling in it. The work on that knife was all done freehand with a Dremel tool. I'm working on a 1/4 IN. THICK tREE-WACKER bOWIE too. It already chops like a battle ax.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Not that this is saying much, mind you, but it's a lot better than I could do I'm sure...keep at it.

Hopefully we will get to see your future endeavours. Being a huge bowie fan myself, I would certainly like to get a look at that one when it's done.

GM,
 of you to resize first one and add the Arkansas Bowie for Jim.
Keith's suggestion about a shot from the side and the top is a very good idea the next time you post pics.
The Osage Orange looks nice.

Doug :)

I think your knives will beat my knife smithing skills by far even without your limited motor skills

I can only say that they look great and that i hope you will pursue your career in this line of work.

I am looking forward to see your next projects

The picture's and knives look very promising!

Good work
