I've looked at some of the links to hand finishing blades. Does anyone have any other links? Or does anyone else want to share how they are finishing their blades. I've been using a buffer, but I want to do some with sand paper. Maybe up to 1200 grit. I usually go up to 440 or 600 on the grinder before buffing. I just want to try something different. Thanks guys!

I am in the process of putting a hand rubbed finish on a Busse. I am using the following grits -150, 220, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000. ALOT of sanding, b ut the mirror finish is finally coming out.

jokrswylde, if you are buffing for polish effect, you need to go a lOT higher in your grit first - 1500 minimum.
Don't depend on that buffer to make things shiny! 600 grit scratches on a polished surface are practically gouges!
And, for a proper hand rubbed finish, and I don't care what anybody says, go up HIGH, and then come back down!
You don't just stop at 600, 800 or 1000, take it up to 1200, 1500, or 2000 and then rub it out at your desired finished grit.
Make full length strokes on your blade with backing for the contour of the blade - flat for flat, slightly flexible for hollow or convex.
Get comfortable - ready for the long haul. Don't go to the next grit until the one you're on is 100% complete.
There are numerous tutorials all over the web if you search.
What I've said here doesn't even scratch the surface - no pun intended!

kbaknife has good advise.
I go to 8000 with 3M polishing papers starting at 600 (six different papers),I use wet or dry SC up to 1000 or 2000 first, finishing wet, then go back with the papers. These are those color coded,semi-cloth polishing papers. They will mirror polish the steel.Just a light buff with rouge (by hand),and it's done.
