handle accidentally removed from sak

hi,

while i was lubing my sak cybertool, i accidentally dropped it on on the floor at an approximately 3ft height. fortunately, no blades were deformed, nor any part "within" the knife had a problem... except for the handle.

i might not sound clear enough but the handle i am referring to is the red translucent plastic on sak's. there was no crack actually, but i noticed that if you lift the edge, you can see that the "translucent plastic" is actually separating from the body of the sak.

the question is that, how are those translucent (sometimes opaque) plastics in sak's assembled? are they simply placed there with adhesiive?

its actually disaapointing for a sak to suddenly get that kind of damage by just a 3ft drop.

thanks

It's just a press fit. If it really bugs you, pop them the rest of the way off with a thin piece of metal (I use the tweezers... ;) ) and add a drop of Superglue on the pins, then replace and vise.

My knees buckled when I read this topic  Can't imagine my handle not attatched to my sak. How about the rest of you studs?

Then, wave your magic wand to make those UGLY plastic scales disappear and be replaced with a nicer material (cocobolo wood, that is):

Dat's my "CocoSak" :D

that's a nice scale you got for your sak. how were you able to fit the cocobo wood scale? is that a glued or forced fit?

honestly, i like the alox for my cybertool. is there somewhere or any place where i can get an alox scale?

It may be that the impact just caused the scale to slip, but didn't really damage it. Just put the thing in a vise, with some padding around it, and tighten it up. That may be all it needs.

If that doesn't do it you have several options:

1) You can always send it back to Victorinox for warranty repair. They will fix the problem, and anything else that's wrong, for only the cost of shipping.

2) You can buy replacement scales from Pizzini or Swiss-Knife Shop and put them on yourself. It's easy to do and only takes a few minutes. This will also let you choose a different scale color or upgrade to the "plus" scales that hold a removable pen and a straight pin in addition to the usual tweezers and toothpick.

3) You can make make your own scales from just about any material you like (or find someone to do it for you).

I am also a big fan of alox scales, but you can't fit standard scales from a 93mm alox model onto a 91mm cellidor model. Not only are the slightly different sizes, but the pin positions are different. You'd have to make your own custom alox scales to pull this off.

are those scales from swiss-knife shop "original"?

by the way, they didn't have alox scales... :(

The handles are snapped on over the rivet. If it comes loose you can press it on. If its broke and will not snap back on you can either glue it with epoxy, make new handles, or look on ebay and find some replacements (Ive seen many SAK handle replacements for sale there). If you do not find any you like you can get ahold of victorinox and they can probably help you.

i have already contacted vic thorugh email. too bad they do not have alox replacement. according to the reply, they only have the translucent onyx, ruby, and sapphire
