I am think of getting a knife - thing is which to get Carbon fiber/Micarta - which one is better for EDC?

Carbon fiber is good. But I like micarta better for EDC. It's reasonable, water proof, shatter proof; it's almost indestructible.

I sure like the way carbon fiber looks - very high tech but I dont like the slick feel of it in the hand. Linen micarta, if bead blasted works well. If you are looking at synthetics, G10 works well. My personal favourite of the man-made materials would be canvas micarta (hey did I show you the CQB-2 with black canvas micarta handles yet?).

Carbon fiber is the most durable.

Micarta is great when wet, very grippy for a man made material.

G-10 is not as strong as CF, stronger than Micarta and can be textured better than either in most cases.

I like all 3 but for different reasons and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Still not 100% sure which to go for but most likely will go for the CF.

Hope I don't regret this.

Andrew - have to go to your house one of these day to see your knife.
I was going to go on 2 Nov but (U went to Singapore)

Never had any use for carbon fiber when it first became big. I would usually avoid knives done in this material. Finally took the plunge on a custom J.W. Smith folder and now I love the stuff! In fact I now have 8 folders with this handle material. A couple of these have a very shiny finish, while the rest have a more subdued matte type finish. Either way I've had no real problem with hanging on to them in use. I did have one that had blasted carbon fiber and you could really tell a difference to the touch. I have always liked micarta's and G-10's, the different colors can be pretty awesome! I have a knife coming that is going to have some F-18 carbon fiber, which is a more dense version and is actually the trimmings from F-18 jet fighter wings!

Oh yeah, I don't know why I never liked carbon fiber to begin with........maybe it was the patterning.
