Does the Micarta need any kind of care? I was checkinhg out my Meaner and noticed the handle material looked alot better when I spit on it...you know, wet. Then it got a bit faded looking again. Is there anything you guys put on your handles to bring out the color? John

you can darken it with wd40.... and nope it won't make it slippery... Or with use the oil from your hands will darken it.

Oil from your hands will darken the micarta. You can also use some light oil of any other kind to darken the slabs. You don't need much and just work it in, make sure not to use too much as you don't want to lose the knife when swinging hard ;)

If you want to change it to a lighter color again you can just clean it with a scotchbrite and warm soapy water

:D:D

I did this a while back to a BA-E of mine. The handles were literally slick, shiny, and black. Like black paper micarta. I scrubbed them with a brush and soapy water and I couldn't believe it. They dried in less than a minute and were a VERY light coloured grey/green.

It must have been black canvas, AFAIK it has the highest change of color when dry vs. oily, and I have had this happen to me as well, but it's usually the other way around for me... light to dark, that is.

It was loving spit....drool you might say...but it sure looked good when I rubbed it in:D John

the best method and the one used @ the factory is as follows.

dunk the handle in cbl and hang for the amount of time it takes to eat a pizza.

when dry dunk one more time and drink a few cbls.

then when dry dunk one more time and let dry.

at this point the handle should be very colorful and have a slight tacky feel to it. i should say "none slip" and that is the way most are treated for compitition.

if you find this to tacky or the flys are bugging you then follow this removel method

fill water glass with johnny walker blue. dunk and swirl micarta till clean and bright.

drink, fill and repeat.

finished, thats it, take a look see. knive should have a fuzzy clean look to it.
