So, did a little butchering with my RC3 this morning. I've never had to clean a micarta handle before. Is there anything I need to know? Or is water as good as it gets?

Tuff Cloth work?
But I guess my bigger question is do I need to worry about sterilizing it in any way? Or is water good enough to wash off the gunk and then condition it with the mineral oil?

Wash it with soap and water and let it air dry. It will be dry within minutes.

If you want to darken it, then mineral oil will darken it but you can take it back out with soap and water.

Micarta = no worries.

Yup, what he said. I've only ever cleaned my RC3 with soap and water and it dries very quickly.

Another fantastic cleaner is Windex. Mike Fuller of TOPS recommended it to me as the way to clean micarta, and it does a great job of removing the slickness from oils etc. The micarta looks and feels like it's fresh out of the box.

Yep,windex.....is a good way to clean micarta...thanks Brian :D

I took the dirty, nasty, sweaty, scales off of my RC-3 today and washed them with orange Ajax antibacterial dishwashing liquid in the kitchen sink. I was in a hurry to go to work, so I blow-dried them off with a hair dryer and reassembled the knife. They look brand new now.
