None of what's shown looks to require the involvement of 'rude and crude' belt sanders; whose end products are increasingly mainstay of the more primitive circular saw lathe set ups that 'chew' or 'gnaw' up wood into a cursory handle shapes for the aftermarket in north America.
^ Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Never seen a copy lathe like that, very cool. Seems like it could be catastrophic with some kinds of grain but when you make three at a time it's probably a non-issue.
