Hello all...I am developing hairline cracks in my bone-handled kukuri that I carry outside in some very extreme weather. I would like to prevent this in my other two knives...( these do not leave the house) Is there something that the handles can be treated with??? Frank

Frank if it's truly bone then give it a good soaking in glycerin, you can get it ay any drug store.
If the handle is buffalo horn then the guys here are using hoof-flex
or anything with a heavy concentration of lanolin.
Super glue applied to the small cracks will seal them permanently, but the handles still need to be dressed with something now and then.:)

I have one like that, it's a natural feature of horn. Are you treating your Khuk handle to some kind of lanolin? That helps preserve the material. If the cracks become large there is much information here about what to do- we just had a thread on it.

Thanks Yvsa...(It is a buffalo horn, not bone)....I treated the cracks with super-glue....seem to work well....I will try the lanolin. Thanks to you all, Please stay safe......Frank at 15 below zero.

I hope I never see 15 below again. That's just too cold for humans to be running around in.:)
